Inspired by the upcoming CFDA awards on Monday, I decided to pay a little homage to the designers I think should win. First up, the boys from Proenza Schouler. They really are one of my favorite designers so I really wanted to go back and pick out their greatest hits since day one. Click images to enlarge.
Since their first collection, they exhibited a level of maturity and sophistication unlike anyone else. They introduced their signature bustier as well as their luxe/gritty sensibility, which was sexy, thoroughly modern yet completely wearable it was a definite sign of things to come.
Their second collection was a big departure, yet it still maintained the details that would eventually become their signature. They showed an added emphasis on seams and continued exploring their high/low sensitivity and showing updated breezier versions of their bustier.
This is one of my favorite collections of theirs. It's so luxurious and tough! I loved the play with proportions, with those strong shoulders, the fur scarves and the updated layered bustier. Absolutely genius.
Soft, beautiful and so wearable! The long dress was one of my absolute favorites.
Oh god, I loved this collection too. Maybe it's because they do their strongest work for Fall? Looking through this collection I found myself wanting everything, and actually being able to wear it in real life. I mean, how sexy is that bustier with wide tweed pants? How cool is that green dress with that awesomely mod necklace? So cool!
This was so delicate. Like something you wear to a fabulous safari (kinda like Keira Knightlie's look in this month's Vogue).
I think this collection was a huge step for them, and why shouldn't it? It was so fabulous! The prints, the proportions, the attitude, everything was right on spot. That coat and pants look made me swoon for days.
Their spring collection was so fabulous too! The sequined dress is one of my absolute favorites and the geometric print tank has come very closely to being mine and at the last minute I always manage to reason that I can't pay 300-some dollars for a tank top, but oh! I want it. That was a long sentence, I'm sorry, but this collection is so en-pointe!
Good luck to my boys on Monday night. I really hope they win!
