As some of you may have heard, the last few days in New York City have been ridiculously, insanely hot (and please keep in mind that I grew up in a tropical island so I am not spooked by heat easily). To make matters worse, I live on the top floor of my building which means that my apartment is always about 100 degrees warmer than outside. Insane. That means that I've had to really work with my clothes to find things that won't cause me to melt while I'm outside. I've found that when I pair down my outfits, I end up with this slightly retro feeling outfits, and you know what? I like it!
Foolproof outfit, for sure. When I don't feel like dressing up but I don't want to look like a total slob, I grab my most favorite Blood is the New Black tee by Milano Chow. I totally forgot I had this shirt because I packed it so well when I moved last September and then rediscovered it a couple of months ago (yeah, I know, I have too many clothes), it has slight puffy sleeves and a rounded neck and makes me feel instantly fancy. Tucked into a high-waisted skirt and worn with my sweet saddle shoes I felt like a total Pink Lady.
Today I ended up with a slight 40's vibe, but it was just an excuse to wear these cool wooden mules that I brought back from home two weeks ago. I got the at Betsey Johnson sometime in 1999 when I helped them open a store in Puerto Rico. I don't think I had worn them since then, but when I went home they seemed like the perfect addition to my summer wardrobe. They're bit narrow so I have to stretch them a bit, but they're weird and playful and that's just how I love my shoes.
