My obsession with Prada lace continues to move to previously unheard-of dimensions. This weekend, after a lil jaunt to Soho with my friend Andrea (where she picked up the most ridiculously AMAZING pair of blue sequin Miu Miu pumps), I made up my mind to bring some lace into my life by any means necessary. The idea fairy touched me while perusing the Time's fashion issue (where lovely Elizabeth from White Lightning wrote an article, I hope you read it!) and listening to the Cars, I WOULD MAKE A LACE NECKLACE!
I got dressed and headed out to awesome superstore M&J Trimming in midtown. I just KNEW that the store would yield something awesome. After carefully examining their selection of lace, I picked a nice, thick ribbon and set about finding something to hang it around my neck with. Initially, I had thought that a silver chain might look nice, but after I came across the spools of leather, I knew leather and lace was going to be it (I also bought some velvet ribbon just in case I had difficulties with the leather).
As soon as I got home, I got to work, deciding how to cut the lace was a bit tricky. I wanted a triangular shape that would look nice laid against the chest and had to really plan out how to cut around the pattern so that it made sense. Deciding how and where to attach the straps was the most difficult part, but then it was smooth sailing! I sewed a button at the end and cut a keyhole in the leather (which I reinforced so it wouldn't rip more, thankyouverymuch) et voila!
I fucking LOVE it.
