On Thursday night, I was lucky enough to attend the launch party for the insanely awesome new line Alex & Eli at Maryam Nassir Zadeh, a really cool store on the Lower East Side. Among oodles of cactii, flowers, super adorable patent leather loafers, and candy cigarettes (!!!), hung the beautiful pieces designed by Anne and Aja, recent graduates of Parsons, who after internships with peeps like Rodarte, Carolina Herrera and Zac Posen, branched out on their own with a line of suits and tailoring for cool girls.
I'm not going to beat around the bush and I will go straight to my single new sartorial obsession: the blazer with zip-off-sleeves. Yes. ZIP.OFF.SLEEVES.
You guys! The construction in this jacket is amazing, and I am not certain that the picture on the left truly does it justice. The gold industrial zipper is not noticeable at all, but even if you could see it, it would look incredible. I love things that are well finished all over, even when you cannot notice them. I am also super psyched about it because it retails for about $480, which is perfectly appropriate because you are buying two-pieces in one. I have already started my piggy bank savings for it. I cannot say enough good things about it.
The rest of their collection is insanely versatile, it has hints of YSL but in a more downtown, un-fussy way. The pleated pants were exquisite, both in full length and shorts. The southwestern print is totally bananas, and feels super vintage. It's just lovely really.
Oh and the non-suiting pieces? Just as cool. This jumpsuit was made of the softest, thinnest jersey (at least I think it was silk jersey), and I can't imagine anything more perfect to wear when it gets ridiculously warm and gross in the city in July. And to top it off in the utmost radness, check out the jacket with the tail! AH! So so so good. I wish these girls the best of luck, not that they will need it because they are clearly on the right path to win over the hearts of every single girl ever in the history of the universe.
Ps. My apologies for the lack of updates lately, it's jsut taken me a while to get the hang of things again, what with my vacation and being super sick lately. I should get back on track from now on though! No worries!
