NYC Spring 2010: Calvin Klein

Let's talk about something that's been bothering me for a while now. Why is Francisco Costa's work at Calvin Klein so underrated? Each season he makes amazing clothes and he always strikes the perfect balance between the modern minimalism that Calvin is known for and some pretty avant-garde stuff. I feel like on a certain level, Costa enjoys his quiet success, but that doesn't mean that everyone else shouldn't be freaking out about his beautiful clothes.

A beautiful simple white shift dress with one voluminous sleeve. Just reading that sentence transports you to another place. There is something very soothing about it.

The gradient and rugged texture in this dress are absolutely magnificent.

These little pastel dresses that came out are for sure the stuff dreams are made of. Even though they are so simple, there are a lot of things coming together to create the explosion of magical. First, the texture. It looks like they wet the dresses, twisted them while they dried and then put them on the models. Second, the colors are just the perfect hue. They are bright without being blinding and subtle without blending into white. The yellow one in the middle is particularly amazing and it reminds me of seeing a little bit of the sun come out in an otherwise gray, rainy day. And last, the slight volume that all the dresses have. They don't just hang there, but they mold the body without being tight at all.

The platform sandals are the perfect 90's update. I will try my hardest to get a pair of these into my closet.

Epic, Francisco, just Epic.

You're absolutely right. Calvin Klein is always overlooked. Good stuff, constantly.
