Sunday Jam: The one from the past and from now

I'm sure by know you're all tired of Michael Jackson, but whatevs. I loved this song when it came out and remember being fascinated by the awesome dance sequence in the video. We've been listening to this song nonstop for the past few days so I guess now it's also embedded to this whole London trip, which has been absolutely amazing/insane.
I'll be back in the states on Tuesday.

Quasi Goodbye

I've been MIA lately so it might not make such a HUGE difference in my posting lately, but I'll still let you guys know that I'm going out of town for a week! I'll try to post while I'm over there because there are many resort shows I have to cover and all sorts of stuff. There will be some changes coming soon. Everything is really exciting and awesome. This 2009 year of positivity thing (should I trademark it by now?) has really worked. all you gotta do is BELIEEEVE!

Sunday Jam: For Magical Times

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs debut ep is the best thing they've ever done and probably will.

2009 is the year of positivity! get into it!

Resort 2010 VI

WOAH! So I took a little unexpected break back there, didn't I? I've been so busy in the last few days and work really wears me out so I just come home and pass out! BUT, I really have to stop dilly-dallying with the excuses and get down to it. There is MUCH too much stuff I want to share with you guys.

1. 3.1 Phillip Lim:
Poor Phillip Lim. The pictures from his rad resort collection have been sitting on my desktop for like two weeks now because I keep pushing back writing about them. I will admit that the main reason why I like it so much is because of the INSANE styling, as the clothes themselves are not particularly remarkable. They're all kinda classic staple items that are put together in really cool way. The first outfit is probably the only one that I love because of the pieces themselves, the mismatched lace ensemble is very tongue-in-cheek. The second outfit is ALL about the new slouchy silhouette. I can't imagine a more comfortable and cool pairing when you are on vacation than these two.

I really love that the graphic on the t-shirt is kind of hidden by the high-waist skirt and the jacket. You really can't go wrong with a combination of white and brown with a touch of black. Then of course we end with MORE SLOUCH and a lil' sparkle. Yes!

2. Peter Jensen:

Why not?
It's summer man, have fun!

3. Givenchy:
The best way to accent anything is with a bajillion golden chains. Why would you buy any other piece from this collection?

Ok, maybe you buy another piece in the collection because it's this awesome neon mint green dress. I always love a sort of old-school classic shape done in a crazy color.

4. Vera Wang:
Whisper-thin nude sheer dress. I like this dress so much thaat it's kind of ridiculous.

Random Observation #908098

Lauren duPont and Aerin Lauder wore hot-off-the-runway looks from Thakoon's Resort 2010 collection to the CFDA awards last night. The very same looks I described as "SO ready for the red carpet" in my resort roundup last week.

This has been Laia, with vital information for your everyday life.

holy child

I finished my zine!

Resort 2010 V

1. YSL:
I loved the YSL resort collection. It feels very adult and chic and jet-set in a way that not many things are anymore. I guess if you're going to do drop crotch pants you should really drop that crotch to the floor no? And usually I would NOT advocate such pants, but there is something so perfectly carefree about them that they just work. I also am digging the leggings layered under them. It feels kind of "after class ballerina" which is something that always appeals to me. The coat is impeccably cut and it's somehow looks kind of oversized and made-to-measure at the same time? How do you do it Pilati??

I'm pretty sure we will see Julianne Moore rocking this dress at some point. It's a very dramatic dress but it still feels very classic. I want crazy voluminous sleeves.

Doesn't this look feel like classic Yves Saint Laurent from the 70's or something? I can totally imagine Loulou de la Falaise rocking this.

2. Jonathan Saunders:
Jonathan Saunders has a magic hand when it comes to doing colors, no? I would add this look to my dream editorial with the Rodarte Fall look and the Christopher Kane resort look. I am a genius! hahahaha And speaking of Rodarte, what's the deal with the shoes dude?

3. Zero Maria Cornejo:
I never turn down a chance to do a little gold sparkle.

I'm not entirely sure I am into these pieces per se, but I'm so enthralled by the beautiful colors! The green and blue together really work up some magic. Maybe if you added a little jacket and a belt it wouldn't be so weird? I don't know, perhaps Michelle Obama can figure it out (topical humor!).

4. Derek Lam:
The best thing about that fabric is that it has a kind of "faded jean" look but at an obviously more luxurious level. Very simple and sexy and very resort.
Ps. I'm wearing for the climbing up your leg gladiator thing to go away. Thanks.

Barely Late Sunday Jam is totally worth it with Marcel Dzama

Department of Eagles - No one does it like you

Dudes, isn't this the awesomest thing EVER???

Resort 2010: Philo's Back, Alright!*

After a couple of seasons without her wonderful point of view, Phoebe Philo is back, this time for the house of Celine (which hasn't been relevant since Michael Kors left forever ago). The collection started out a little awkward, which had me worried for a bit, but by the end, I remembered why we all obsessed over her super iconic Chloe looks from when she was at the helm.

Lots of beige and tan in this collection, which perfectly compliments the tan skin one acquires when out on vacation. I don't quite get the long coat for warm weather, but I do like the two together.

This dress has a bit of the awkward spirit I mentioned, but I think it works. You guys know I'm into the "nude look" and this is a perfect little shift dress to throw on and feel like you're wearing nothing at all. The contrasting sleeves are just spot on.

And then POOF! A splash of color appeared with these incredible turquoise pants which, when paired with the nude button down (also seen at Preen, sensing a trend yet?), becomes a subversively sexy look.

It's so simple and classic, yet so bold. And the cobalt trousers? PERFECTION. I would dress like this every.single.day.

This black and white graphic print look seemed a little out of place with the rest of the clothes, but it's so cool that I don't really care. The white geometric shape created on the bodice is my favorite part.

YEAH Phoebe! Can't wait to see what awaits for Spring!

*Yeah, I referenced the Backstreet Boys.
I'm sorry?

Oh Anna...

I'm beginning to think that Anna Wintour has a bizarre sense of humor. I mean Sienna, again? Hahaahaha.

Resort 2010 IV

1.Preen:
The slouchy invasion continues! This is a total basic look that I will for sure try to recreate. I really want a pair of skinny slouchy trousers like these.

I love the slightly exaggerated rounded shoulder shape. The blue and black printed skirt is fantastic. I love a tropical goth. HAHA.

I love everything this suggests. The colors and the drape of the fabric suggest a softness that secretly becomes nude which goes really well with the conservative high-necked button down shirt and ruffle wrap skirt.

2. ADAM:
Nothing special here, I just really like the idea of an everyday sweater with a luxe embellished detail. Ok, and I also love the little drapey orange shorts.

3.Doo.Ri:
SLOUCH SLOUCH SLOUCH. Oversized detailed white tee with relaxed fitting pleated gray pants spells MODERN.

4. Helmut Lang:
But then again, the new violent graphics ALSO spell out MODERN.
What does it all mean?

5. Stella McCartney:
After growing up shunning everything that was too "girly", I now find myself in love with ll flower prints and GLITTER SHINY SPARKLY SEQUINS. Well, Stella is definitely responsible for a lot of that, and I think this look perfectly captures the balance I am looking to bring into my life. A grown-up, classic white shirt paired with crazy impractical sequin pants. Having it on Anouck only makes it cooler, obviously.

The shoulder in that jacket is DIVINE!
I am also super intrigued by the shoes?

Resort 2010: Christopher Kane

My love for Christopher Kane grows more and more each season. I've never been much into prints of something, but spurred by all the space prints popping up lately, I've developed a bit of a thing for photorealist prints. Kane did the gorilla last season and for resort he's brought out all kinds of incredible explosions. The asymmetric cut of this dress perfectly compliments the cloud of smoke. Even the shoes have the same print!

This look shows how wearable these prints can really be. Paired with a long black cardigan the print becomes brightly abstracted.

The colors in the skirt are sort of mysterious and beautiful. I'm a big fan of things that turn into other things, so this leather jacket with zip-off bottom TOTALLY belongs in my closet.

I want to shoot a fashion editorial where I pair some pieces from this collection with the volcanic eruption pieces from the Rodarte fall collection. I love how Nature has become such a big theme in the last few seasons, albeit in a fresh non-hippie way. It's the future!

Ok, so this look seems a little out of place in the collection, but I still really dug the graphic pattern in the skirt. It's all about gray man!

Resort 2010 III

1. Burberry Prorsum:
This is the perfect slim, slouchy suit, in the perfect shade of gray. The shoulder on the jacket is fantastic

This is the perfect new silhouette. I'm ready to stop wearing super skinny jeans and tight tank tops and embrace more suggestive, airy shapes. Total inspiration look.

2. Michael Kors:
I think the print on this dress is really cool. I think the longer shape and closed-collar make it a bit conservative which makes the thick leather belt look kind of awkward. Of course, I love awkward, so I can't stop staring at these and trying to figure out how to capture such a feeling.

3.Calvin Klein:
More slouchy! I'm developing a thing for layering sheer fabrics, and I think the way it's done here is tomboyish perfection. And did you guys notice the GREAT little gold pointy boots? Need those!

I love this lady-like look paired with the aforementioned gold boots. This is kind of what I strive for when I get dressed everyday, a nice contrast between "day" and "night" items. I'm not saying I'm actually successful all the time (and sometimes I just throw shit on and go), but I think in the back of my mind, it is totally my feel. I seriously need those shoes!

4. Diane von Furstenberg:
DVF was obviously inspired by the lovely White Lightning when deciding on the accessories for this collection. She would rock these bows like there's no tomorrow! Anywho, I'm always a sucker for old-timey bathing suits, and this is my dream bikini bottom for sure.

I know this is a light spring coat, but I would layer the crap out of it as soon as it started cold and I'd never get depressed because of the oncoming winter! Love the colors and the zig zag pattern WAY too much.

5. Miu Miu:
Love the "layered look" maillot. Perfect bold, graphic details.

This pattern lies somewhere between crazy holographic deep sea jellyfish and Andy Warhol's famed flower print. I love how the thick white piping adds such a cool pop of color.

Like a moth to a flame

PLOP!*

Oh lord, these are everything I've ever wanted!

Ps. My birthday is in 2 months, just sayin'
Pps. It would be cooler if I actually HAD someone to "just say" this to. Haahahaha.

*This is the sound of me falling over and DYING.

Sunday Jam: Girls Girls Girls

Vivian Girls - Tell the World

When I first heard the Vivian Girls a couple years ago I was like "yeah, ok, fun" and that was it. Then I saw this video last week on New York Noise (Sundays at midnight!) and became instantly obsessed with the song. I love songs with creepy old-timey feelings, and this definitely has it. Hope you guys enjoy it! I'm off to enjoy some outside time on a beautiful Brooklyn day!

This post brought to you by the letter L

Lisa is lovely in Lanvin.

I'm not usually an animal print person, but I guess everything Alber touches turns to gold.

Resort 2010: Alexander Wang

So Alexander Wang's resort collection is exactly what I would like to wear right now. It's filled with classic American sportswear pieces that have been given the Wang treatment (hee hee) and made totally awesome.

Alexander always incorporates heather gray into his collections, which I'm 100% into. The simple muscle tank is exactly what the weirdly asymmetrical/pajama-ish khaki pants need. I'm also really into the whole belt-under-pants look. It really brings the whole thing to another level.

Great slim but not super skinny fit on the jeans. The open weave sweater is a little mop head-esque but I also find myself REALLY wanting to wear it. With a bra, of course.

Now this is TOTALLY nutty. I feel like this is something Amber from Clueless would've worn, but I mean it as a compliment. I know it's wrong guys, I really do, but that doesn't stop me from wanting it!

Perfect little black dress. I always love a shoulder cutout; it's such an easy way to add a lil' sex appeal.

Perfect white shirt dress. Yes, this whole thing keeps getting more and more EPIC-LY CLASSIC. Are you guys sensing a theme yet?

And just in case I wasn't already drowning in a sea of my drool (nice!) he sends out a tight fitting , zip front, heather gray shift dress. OMG.

This is my favorite Alexander Wang collection ever!
