Pre-Fall 2010: Proenza Schouler

I am DYING over Proenza Schouler's pre-fall collection, you guys. It is everything, everything, everything I want to wear. I've never seen "school-girl chic" done in such a tough, non-lolita way. Perhaps it's because as always, the Proenza girl is a bit of a tomboy, I should really be calling this "school-boy chic".

This is the first look and I have to be honest, the most striking thing here is the perfect tousled hair with overgrown bangs. It really adds a dose of swagger and attitude to the clothes. The pieces are all classics too, the perfect hooded navy toggle-coat, a blue button down shirt under a grey sweater tucked into plaid shorts. THATS A SCHOOL UNIFORM GUYS! But then... it's not? The boots seem to be inspired by their epic fall 09 boots that I am still CERTAIN I will get in my closet somehow.

THIS IS IT, though.
THIS IS EVERYTHING I WANT TO BE.
The dress has such a bizarre silhouette, at first glance you might think it's too big for her and that its a little bit frumpy but it actually fits her perfectly. The drape in the skirt is beautiful and the curved seam at the waist creates an hourglass figure. It's definitely got a Marni vibe going on. And then you take that and layer it over a two-tone button down shirt. Because that's the obvious thing to do, of course.
Brown and blue is also one of my favorite combinations.

I've been living in a batwing sweater by Kai-Aakmann, and I welcome any and all new propositions on the sweater and how to wear it. This one gives the whole look a bit of sensuality, despite the fact that she's wearing a shirt buttoned all the way up and tucked into trousers. And speaking of trousers, these have got to be one of the best I've seen. These are the pants that when you are rich, you buy them in all colors because you'll obviously live in them forever.

Not content with keeping the school-boy references intact, Jack and Lazaro brought in some unexpected textures, like a fur bomber jacket with knit ribbing. The pleated tweed skirt needs to be in my closet right now.

Leather and tweed are ALWAYS good together. This look feels a little futuristic, though I can't quite pinpoint where I'm getting the feeling from. I love dresses that look like they might be separates, this one would look great with a thin long sleeve shirt under it and some super chunky tights.

More texture! I want to say it's some kind of space-dyed jacquard, but that seems crazy? In any case, I LOVE IT, especially when paired with a printed shirt. The piece-de-resistance here is definitely the jacket, with its slight masculine/oversized look. The leather insets are great, but what I love even more is the extra long length of the sleeves.

I guess by now the boys know I love their blue leather pieces, so they made these shorts for me! So sweet those two. But yes, perfect blue, perfect shape, perfect, perfect, perfect.

I feel like I say this anytime I review their collections but HOTDAMN Proenza Schouler, I want to live in your clothes!

it's like rag & bone if rag & bone put thought into their clothes.

That dress in the second picture is so amazingly simple. I love it, I would wear it with messy hair and slouchy knee socks. And the toggle-coat! I hope this is what the real fall-collection will look like.
