Revisiting Yves Saint Laurent Fall 2010

The thing about the 6 months ahead fashion calendar is that it gives you time to really analyze the ideas proposed for the next season. While some collections instantly speak to my heart others take time to grow and it isn't until I see the clothes in a different context that they start growing on me.

When I first reviewed the collection I focused mostly on a couple brightly colored cocktail dresses that came out towards the end. Now five months later, I'm finding the chic nun looks that made up most of the collection a lot more interesting.

It all started with this Yves Saint Laurent editorial shot by Kacper Kasprzyk for Muse magazine. I immediately fell in love with the shoulder-cage-wing-things and it didn't take long for the feeling to spread throughout. It's austere but with a hint of sex appeal that's almost too subtle to be noticeable. In a way it's almost like drab clothes taken to their most fabulous extreme through volume and textures.

And then the images of the ad campaign shot by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin came out and my feelings for the collection had been completely transformed. A giant floppy hat that covers the entire face, a short flared tunic worn with a cape, opera length leather gloves and the best accessory: a gold version of yourself! The whole thing is just SO St.Tropez Witchy!

ps. I obviously have a need for the jangle!

I mean how could I have missed all of this awesomeness the first time around?

I love the necklaces so much. I wish I could get my hands on one! And the button ups are so dramatic. I love them.

I agree with you, 5 months later I can only worship the collection, beautiful.
And the Daria Werbowy campaign is divine.

I saw this set of outfits a while back and fell in love. I saw this again just now and fell in love all over again.
