NYC Spring 2011 IV

1 Calvin Klein

Francisco Costa stuck to the basics at Calvin Klein with perfect dresses (what else?). A bright red sleeveless shift seems actually too bright for a computer screen so I can only imagine how splendid the shade must be in real life. Two simple black wrap dresses, one a boxy kimono shape and the other form-fitting with long sleeves really stood out, with their subtly sexy vibes.

2 Reed Krakoff
Reed Krakoff explored another angle of 90's minimalism with a subtle nod to Helmut Lang and the future/technology vibes of the time. Except for this red suit which is TOTALLY giving me Gucci vibes, especially because of the necklace! I haven't decided if the plasticized panel on the front is a fanny pack (yes!) or just a detail in the jacket (ok...) but I think I like it either way.

Fall 1996 Gucci
Has Gwyneth ever had a better red carpet moment than this suit? You and I both know that the answer is no.

The dresses were also the best part at this collection. There was a definitely bondage undercurrent in the collection and all the dresses seem to be held up by straps, whether around the waist, like in the sheer khaki layered dress and the black kimono-robe; or all over the body, like the beautiful cobalt blue finale dress.
