Paris Spring 2011 Miu Miu

The message at Miu Miu this season was straight and to the point; simple crewneck silk dresses, bright colors and knee lengths. A collection that looked to fill a specific space versus create volume outside of the body. The day before the show a friend texted me "you gonna die!" after seeing some of the clothes at a fitting, and she was right, of course. It shows a great deal of confidence to stick with a repetitive idea, but I have to be honest, I didn't get bored while watching it (this was another show that was livestreamed on the internet, maybe you can still watch it? check out miumiu.com).
There was a definite pop element in the collection, especially with the star motif throughout, but by far my favorite representation was the color-blocked swan dress. A subtle homage to Marjan Pejoski's epic creation for Bjork that's a bit more wearable but still kooky.

Apart from the swan, the solid blue and neon yellow dresses were my favorite of the collection. There is some tension between the modest silhouette and the sexy, slinky silks, especially in such a vibrant palette that adds a bit of depth to the look. I would wear a different dress from the collection every single day, it's womanly but with a sense of humor. Although the clothes are wildly different from what Miuccia showed at Prada, I think they still both perfectly fit in with the current updated minimalist vibe that's going around since Phoebe Philo hit up Celine, but in a very unique way. The look is contemporary, but timeless which is not something that can be said of the usually quirky label.

I love this collection. It's one of my favorites from PFW. I love the contrast between the young and modern palette of colors and the conservative and classical shapes.

I'm loving all the bright colours. The third one on the top sticks out to me with its different sized patterns and different shades of green. Very cool.
