Sunday Jam: Everyday is a winding road

Sheryl Crow : Everyday is a Winding Road

I know, I know, you're all "Sheryl Crow! ew! what?!", BUT bear with me, I have good reason to post this.

#1 She is so on trend in this video it hurts. She is wearing a lil' knit cardigan-as-a-shirt with a lil' graphic print below the knee a-line skirt. That is so PRADA now that it's kinda ridiculous (ALTHOUGH I'm pretty sure I remember it being Prada back then, so it's not actually ridiculous, it just goes to show how much of her traditional 90's silhouette Miuccia left in her fall offerings). And what's on her feet? The perfect pair of chunky mary-janes, these can currently be found in Miuccia's other secret 90's fest, the Miu Miu spring collection.

So obviously Sheryl Crow needs to be in the new ad campaign. HA!

#2 I actually like this song. Yeah, deal with it. This song was released in 97, and that is my favorite year, and this was a big song that year so it all makes sense in my head. But I still like that whole Sheryl Crow album. "If It Makes You Happy" is also an awesome song and I also secretly like "My Favorite Mistake", but that's another story. HAHA.

Milan Fall 2010: Jil Sander

No surprises at Jil Sander.
Raf Simons designed a classically-Jil collection. No fuss, no ornaments, just clean lines and easy clothes. His thought process involved "women who pick a target and then follow through", and so the collection ended up being inspired by Lara Croft and Anna Wintour. Kind of amazing all ready.
The show started slow and simple, a few clean single-breasted jackets worn with sheer mini-mini skirts.

Then slowly other shapes started to emerge. The drape in this dress is wonderful, it seems as if they just dropped the fabric on the form and it just happened to fall that way. There is such ease of flow and such great movement. It naturally draws attention to the boobs, and I'm guessing that's where the Lara Croft thing comes in.

The tweeds that followed where phenomenal and had a slight future/techno vibe going on in the way all the lines were lined up in all the parts, especially because it's such a big plaid. The short-sleeve jumpsuit that Freja is wearing is pretty much perfect, but if that's too much, there's also a suit.

Simple printed shift dresses, in tweed for the office, and in a supertight short black and white print for after hours.

This is kind of awkward and fashion-school-y.
I.LOVE.IT.
I mean, it just works! (and for those very same reasons).

A rich shade of aubergine, not unlike the one Ms. Wintour favors, paired with a pleated sleeveless dress, not unlike the one Ms. Wintour favors. AHA!
(As soon as I see a picture of her wearing it, I will POST IT!)

And always, always, paired with the perfect flat leather boots.

Milan Fall 2010: Prada

The Prada show suffered from a case of unmet high expectations. Before the show started (and was livestreamed on the company's website), the whole internet was buzzing with mystery news about some kind of EPIC casting situation that would have Miuccia address the industry's current "size" issue. Well apparently that meant casting models who sometimes appear on the Victoria's Secret catalog. Yeah, I know, I didn't care either.

To further complicate things, the show started 40 minutes late and the online stream was a piece of shit at best. It kept freezing, the sound never really came on and it was all just crazy.

But what about the clothes? They were simple, classic 90's silhouettes with some added flourishes on the bust that have everyone freaking out about Miuccia designing or "real women" or some such malarky.

The pieces I liked best from the show all had a Celine-like quality to them, and it was surprising to see that not even Miuccia herself could escape the influence. The a line- below the knee skirts were really nice, and the knits were also quite nice. But the best part of the show were really the accessories, beautiful fur stand-alone collars, super nubby socks and the most epic exaggerated cat-eye glasses with built-in eyebrows.

London Fall 2010: Erdem

PERFECTION

The colors, the prints, the simple silhouettes, the layering, the epic printed maxi dresses at the end. I want it all.
Erdem needs to BLOWUP dudes, this is too good to just go unnoticed.

London Fall 2010 III

1. Roksanda Ilincic:
"I accidentally poured some oil on a model's body and like magic, it turned into a dress."

2. Jonathan Saunders:
I love simple shift dresses, and this one in the perfect shade of powder blue with square cut-outs is just what the doctor ordered, especially with those AMAZING pink patent booties.

Totes hippie-kinda-Missoni vibe but I love it. New longer length strapless dress worn over long sleeve tee is TOTES my jam!

I love the faded geometric print of the skirts and the crazy colorblocked shirt. There's something supremely awkward and awesome about showing a bit of shin between a long skirt and some short black socks.

3. Antonio Berardi:
A beautiful long lace dress. Not practical, of course, but sowhatwhocares?

4. Peter Pilotto:
The skirt is from the future and the mix of materials is FANTASTIC!

5. Burberry:
The saturated colors at Burberry were my favorite thing. I would love the yellow skirt and the whole amazing bordeaux enseble.

London Fall 2010: Christopher Kane

Christopher Kane is really doing some crazy stuff with his label. It's not always instantly likable but he always manages to come up with something new. This collection was dark with a kitschy side, in the form of embroidered flowers that seem more suited for couches, or maybe paintings at your favorite cheapo hotel.
These were my two favorite pieces: the lace shirt with contrasting leather floral collar is obviously made for me, we don't really need to debate that. The floral detail looks quite amazing on a navy sweatshirt/cape. I would like to DIY this? It seems easy and AWESOME (stay tuned?).

It's a mish-mash of tough/sexy and hilarious pastoral vibes. Kane always makes it work though, and towards the end, when the florals faded a bit and instead I found myself staring at beautiful embroideries that seemed to be taken from a cathedral that took my breath away.

London Fall 2010 II

1. Louise Goldin:
I recently found a pair of lace-trimmed neon tights and I've started wearing them as biker shorts over black tights and under black dresses for a secret surprise of color. I'm glad to get validation from someone as cool as Louise Goldin. The structured black dress is amazing.

2. Basso & Brooke:
Their crazy prints look entirely different when applied to slouchy drawstring-waist coats. It's a kind of psychedelic-hip hop look.

3. Nicole Farhi:
Fuckyess Celine aftereffects. These Farhi pants are MAJOR.

4. Aquascutum:
The subtle round shapes in this maxi coat are exquisite.

Asymmetric cape-coat situation is to next level. Who knew it could be sexy when paired with a button down blouse and straight-leg trousers?

Now that Olivier Theyskens isn't designing anymore, someone was bound to step up and take in for his Edwardian-inspired visions.

5. Julien Macdonald:
Super-chunky cable knit sweater-dress, perfect for chilly nights at the beach.

This dress makes me think of photocopy of a Rodarte dress. I don't know why because the dress isn't even a copy of it or anything, but that's the first thing that came to mind when I saw it. It's bizarre.

Keeping it business-cash in a slim coat dress.

London Fall 2010: Richard Nicoll

The Richard Nicoll collection was hauntingly beautiful. Love the oversized-graphic print tee worn with a wrap-skirt and, as is to be expected this season, epic long opera gloves.

The best part about his show where all the amazing blue pieces he did. This little dress is equal parts dreamy and 80's working girl.

SO GOOD! Kind of like a WWII factory worker gone completely fabulous. All the shades of blue look great together, but the best part is the most subtle and it's the fact that the sheer gloves match the wisp of bra you can see under the shirt.

This, this is THE LOOK.
Sheer t-shirt and velvet skirt cut up-t0-there.
Relaxed glamour.
This is my everything right here.
